*TOMB PRESENTATIONS*

On January 15th through 18th, 2008, the students of 5Z presented their ideas for the perfect tomb for the world's richest person. Here was the assignment:

ATTENTION ARCHITECTS:  DO YOU WANT A CHANCE TO WIN MILLIONS?

A world-wide building challenge has been issued by the wealthiest person in the world. Being an architect, you are quite interested. The challenge is for anyone to submit designs for an impressive tomb that will eventually house the body of the wealthy person who has begun this contest. The winning design will not only be built, but the architect who designed it will receive millions of dollars! Your job is to submit a design to this competition. You do not want to simply create a pyramid because that has been done before.  What you do want to do is create something large and impressive that will have a shot at winning.  Your assignment is as follows:

1.  On a piece of non-lined paper you are to create a detailed drawing of your modern tomb. Think of ways that will help anyone who views your plan understand the actual size of your tomb (put trees, people or other buildings near your tomb). Make sure you label your drawing, and please make sure that your drawing is neat and colored.

2.  Use your knowledge of pyramids to assist you. Think about their purpose and what they were like inside.  What modern inventions will be used in your tomb?

3.  On a separate piece of paper, write a paragraph or two explaining your design.  What makes it unique?  What is special or interesting about it?  Why should your design be chosen? This is an opportunity for you to really sell your idea!   Be prepared to share your design with the class.
