*GRANDPARENTS AND*

*SPECIAL FRIENDS*

*DAY*

by Caitlin and Stewart

This year, Grandparents' Day was October 5th. It started as any regular day. First, we had language and music and other things. Then the grandparents came.

When our grandparents arrived, we interviewed them. We asked them questions like, "Who was your 5th grade teacher? What was your favorite subject?" Later, we compared how our 5th grade years were the same and different from theirs.

After that, we played a game called Acing 100. It is a math-related card game. First you draw five cards and place them face up for everyone to see. Then you use the basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to try and get as close to 100 as possible. Whoever is the closest wins the round.

Next, we showed our grandparenst our Fast Plants. We measured, pollinated and drew the plants and we told our grandparents all about them. Then the grandparents left and we had recess and a few classes.

Finally we had an assembly in the gym. We sang songs and listened to musical performances, including drumming, bells, and guitar. Each 5th grade class presented a poem. Ours was called "Spring" by William Blake. At the end we sang “This Land is Your Land” all together with the grandparents. Overall, it was a great day!
