Information and Events

*We have begun our investigation of Greece! We have started by focusing on the geography of Greece and gods and goddesses. We'll spend quite a bit of time examining ancient Greek myths, history and culture. Each child will have an opportunity to complete a research project on a topic of his/her choice. At the end of the year, we will have Greek Immersion Day. On that day, each fifth grade class will perform a short play. Parents are invited to attend. Information about Greek Immersion Day will be sent out in May.

*In math, we are focusing on percent and graphing. Each child came up with a question and polled the entire grade. We are in the process of turning that information into bar and circle graphs. Soon we will focus on geometry.

* We just started reading Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech. Each child is responsible for leading the class in a short discussion about a section of the book. After that, the kids will read a children's version of the Odyssey. I will read a children's version of the Iliad to the class.

*Our Writing Workshop continues to be a huge success. This semester, we will continue to focus on parts of speech and different genres of writing.
